Unless you’re an avid cosplayer, Halloween is the one time of year most people get to dress up in costume. Some plan months in advance, while others get blindsided, scrambling to pull something together last minute - something clever… original... thought-provoking… before settling on some cat ears and a black tee, same as last year. But no matter how you approach Halloween, it’s all about having fun, being creative, edgy, and a little out there - all things Tongalers are good at.

So if you’re still mulling over what to wear on All Hallows’ Eve, we have a few suggestions inspired by Videos created by our Tongal community over the past year. Some of these costume ideas are unique to Tongal and may go over the heads of the general public, but would be perfect for say a Halloween party organized through our new Tongal Community Meetups Facebook page!

 1. Creepy Cupid

Inspired by Cupid’s Match: An Original Series Project

Put your own terrifying twist on Cupid inspired by the CW Seed and Wattpad’s new digital series, Cupid’s Match. In the series, Cupid is a seductive, supernatural being who’s mysteriously matched with a lovely mortal, causing chaos for his kind. But what if Cupid had a more sinister origin story? What if Aphrodite hooked up with an evil warlock or vampire? Crazier things have happened, you know. Cupid can be mashed up with pretty much any horror genre - so have fun and be creative with your Creepy Cupid backstory.

2. Geographical Explorer

Inspired by National Geographic Explorer Series

Put on a pair of cargo shorts and live out your childhood fantasy of becoming an explorer. You can tailor your costume to the type of explorer you want to be. This costume is both practical, as it has many pockets to store your candy, wallet and cell phone in, and good for work-sanctioned Halloween events.

3. Senataur

Inspired by Senataur from Next Great Animated Series Project

If you like political satire and equine humor, as well as a good costuming challenge, then you’ll probably like our next costume inspired by Senataur, a winning Next Great Animated Series Project. Half horse, half politician, Senataur comes to Earth to spread his farcical brand of politics. Proving just how wonderful the Internet can be, you can find a selection of pre-made centaur costumes on Amazon to go with your blue blazer and purple tie. We guarantee this costume will turn some heads and increase your social following.

4. Pit Crew

Inspired by Advanced Auto Parts Oil Change Social Awareness Spot

If you’re looking for something snappy, throw on a jumpsuit and grab an oil can and voilá: you are now a member of a NASCAR pit crew. You can also make this work as a group costume, like the family in the Advanced Auto Parts spot.

5. The Tick

Inspired by the Tick Save My City Project

Not too long ago we travelled to Charlotte, North Carolina to document the winner of the #TickSaveMyCity Project. We helped Amazon renovate ourBRIDGE, a refugee center for kids. The mission of ourBridge is to nurture respect and understanding of all cultures and help refugee children acclimate to the school system. Tongaler Caleb Van Voorhis dressed up as The Tick for his Pitch Video, inspiring us to add this costume to the lineup.

6. Witch’s Cold Brew

Inspired by Chameleon Cold Brew

At Tongal, we like cold brew as much as we like, well, oxygen. Dress up as a hip, modern-day witch who needs cold brew in order to cast wicked spells and taunt the local townspeople. Everyone’s gotta fuel their side hustle somehow, even if that involves hexing children and flying broomsticks.

7. MyMo Mochi Muse

Inspired by My First MyMo Mochi Video Series

The latest series of MyMo Videos by SOS in Belair brought to life the visual world of MyMo Mochi Ice Cream through beautiful art direction, pastel colors, and a delightful use of props. Channel your inner mochi spirit and let MyMo be your muse to find props, clothing and accessories that inspire you. Come up with something abstract, original, and visually stunning for Halloween. Who says you have to go with the standard formula, when you can be a piece of art? Bjork and Lady Gaga are both great references for inspiration.

8. Moon Rider

Inspired by Moon Rider from Next Great Animated Series

This imaginative animated series created by James Kwan is about a mischievous little boy named Roger and his sentient bike, June. Together, they explore the strange universe that they live in. For Roger, all you need is a striped helmet, purple scarf and socks, a backpack and a jumpsuit and you’re ready to roll!

9. Pug in a Cup

Inspired by Beauty and the Beast Mini-Movie Project

That’s right folks, it’s a pug…. in a cup. We wanted to throw this one out there for the more ambitious costumers. From the imagination of Young Storyteller Hana Morshedi, with the help of Tongaler Tucker Barrie, we brought the story of Gumbo the Pug, Chip’s new indelible sidekick, to life. Challenge accepted, you say? Cool, can’t wait to see how you pull this one off!

10. Mr. Tongie

And of course there’s Mr. Tongie, who can be easily impersonated by wearing white gloves, coattails, and a red lapel. He’s seen only once a year on stage to hand out Tongies to our winning Ideators and Filmmakers, but here’s a rare shot of him sipping a martini.

We hope these Tongal-inspired costumes get your wheels spinning. Feel free to share other ideas in the comments below. Better yet, if you decide to dress up as one of these characters, make sure to share with us on social media!
