@Caleb Light-Wills
On two separate computers the videos will not play in Internet Explorere 8. Worked fine on Firefox. Not sure if this is something on your side or not. Just FYI. -
Eugene Retunsky
@Michelle Glavan
Now Tongal videos can be viewed on iPhone/iPad. -
James DeJulio
@michelle take that back...coming soon (appx. one week)
-
James DeJulio
@Michelle email the video to yourself through the player. then email that link to the person with the iphone and you will get credit
-
Michelle Glavan
@Caleb so, if I'm next to someone who has an iPhone, but they can't play the video on there, how can I get them to download the winepicks app and still get the points traced back to me?
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Daniel Taylor
Go to your profile. Click account on the left hand-side. Click subscriptions at the top. From here, you can select the type of notifications you wish to receive. -
Daniel Taylor
Hey how do I change the settings to not get these e-mails anymore. It says to change the subscription settings on our profile page, but I can't find anything related to that on there. HELP!!!

The Norman Invasion
@Kevin Almodovar
the requirement was that the logo be on the screen twice, and for a total of 3 seconds. so conceivably it could be on for 1 second at the beginning and 2 at the end, or 1 frame at the beginning and 2 seconds and 23 frames at the end. -
-
John Jones
by that's it, I mean, I don't have itunes on this computer. let me download it and try again.
-
-
John Jones
actually, not "www"... if i replace it with "http" it works.
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@John Jones
I see. It works on my Firefox, are you updated to the latest version? Also, that command (itms) opens itunes, so if that's not installed on your computer it won't work -
John Jones
if i replace the "itms" with "www" in the pop up window it works
-
John Jones
@Caleb Light-Wills
the hover over to download app... it pops up with this link in IE - "itms://itunes.apple.com/us/app/winepicks/id362023173?mt=8" ..
in firefox it just tells me, "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (itms)" -
Caleb Light-Wills
@John Jones
Do you mean the share/embed/email functionality or the hover-over to download the actual app? -
-
Caleb Light-Wills
Hey guys, Most Downloaded is now open. For more information check the blog: http://tongal.com/bl og/contests/what-the -heck-is-most-downlo aded/
-
Kevin Almodovar
@Caleb Light-Wills
I am wondering if the requirements are more loose guidelines. I know it said you had to have the logo on for 3 seonds twice and this was not the case in some videos. How do I approach requirements in the future? -
Kevin Almodovar
Congrats to all the winners!! This by far in my opinion had the most production value out of all the contest I have seen. :)

Mark Burrell
Guys, spoke to the judges tonight. It's been rounded down to 15 and it's now a matter of order. We're making the official announcement tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the patience, they are really having a tough time deciding as the quality is great.
-
Caleb Light-Wills
Video winners will be announced sometime later this week. Thanks for all your great work and sorry for the inconvenience.
-
Mark Burrell
@Bret Carr @The Norman Invasion-Love you guys talking about working together in the future! That's what it's all about. Want to hold more Q&A's to get your thoughts about how to make this type of communication easier.
-
The Norman Invasion
@Bret Carr
-I used After Effects to explode an image of the wine bottle using CC Pixel Polly, and supplemented it with practical compositing elements.
- I shot the slomo face with the Canon 7d.
- All of us at Norman Invasion have one, we'll be in touch! -
Bret Carr
@The Norman Invasion
2. and to animate the flying glass?
3. did you shoot slo mo on the face of the actor - what camera?
4. if you have a feature in development, i'm interested in funding it. -
The Norman Invasion
@Bret Carr
Yeah sorry, only my driver is allowed to talk directly to me, and even then only if he's bearing Grey Poupon. I should probably change that rule. Anyway, yeah, we used after fx to remove the greenscreen. I believe that's what you're asking? -
Eugene Retunsky
@The Norman Invasion
My apologies. The printing press/spam machine has been stopped. -
Bret Carr
norman - since you're a star and i can't make direct contact.
What process did you use to white out and insert video... shake? after fx? and what platform to animate etc. would you give us all your background as your sh_t is tight bro. props. -
The Norman Invasion
@Jeff Zampino
Honestly, Jeff, you can have all of my fake winnings if you can just make the messages stop. 294 emails and counting from Tongal since 3:00pm. -
Jeff Zampino
@Norman...sounds like you need a lawyer. My fee is 30% ;)
-
The Norman Invasion
okay so it's $22,000 and counting, but i will forfeit all addition residuals and stop at $22,000 dollars if it means that I stop getting alerts about receiving more residuals. I've gotten 200+ emails from tongal today. can someone stop this please? haha.
-
Andre Ferreira
Congrats to all the winners!! ....and, may I add, to Norman who apparently got over $12,000 when the top prize was only $5000, according to the winners page. Now that's a victory. haha
-
The Norman Invasion
So apparently our video must be playing on tv stations around the globe, because every 2 minutes i get another 175 dollars in residuals. this is the best day ever and nothing can take this away from-- AW COME ON, CALEB WHAT THE HECK.
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Tomas Christensen
yes, it is a glitch, please disregard. -
-
Tomas Christensen
@Caleb Light-Wills
But the winners are showing up under Video Phase - Final Results. Glitch? -
Caleb Light-Wills
@John Jones
My apologies, your notifications have been switched off for the time being. We'll get it fixed ASAP. -
John Jones
I've gotten like 15 of those congrats emails now... Not sure if there would be a way to turn that off with out having to unsubscribe email notifications?
-
Dave Yarr
There is one video among the winners the camera is all over the place. Looks like it was shoot with cellphone cam. The logo is squashed and the video is 31 second instead on 30. The tutorials at Tongal says how to use camera and how to not use. But this...
-
Brian Whitton
@Caleb Light-Wills oooooooh kay. man. I'll go back to biting my nails now ;)
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Brian Whitton
In short, yes. Generally, judge's votes are announced at the same time, but here you get a sneak preview. Remember that three other judges still need to vote. -
Brian Whitton
@Caleb Light-Wills so then the winners listed on the prize page are just to get our wheels spinning?
-
-
-
John Jones
I just received an email congratulating me on winning first for most downloads.. haha... feel free to send that check asap :)
-
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Dave Yarr
Only if someone's video fails to play properly, as was the case with a few videos in this project. Sometimes, we have to reconvert so that it works properly and re-upload it on the member's behalf. -
Dave Yarr
Did you guys noticed? I also see some videos have been changed. Is it fair to update videos after the deadline's over?
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Austin Gilmour
It appears so. Luckily, there's no prediction this time around. -
Austin Gilmour
Yeah the points show up on my computer too. I think one of the judges must have voted already.
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Cristina Diaz
@Deborah Coneset
I completely understand your confusion. There is a glitch that is in the process of being fixed. The Most Downloaded phase will not being until the sponsor has selected a top 5, which will not happen until Monday. -
Christian Schwier
Did one of the judges vote? It looks like under submissions we can see points allocated to the top 10 vids....?
-
-
Deborah Coneset
so I'm confused, are the 1st 5 videos listed on the submission page the winners? because they are the only ones that have the download button after the video...
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Josh Atchley
Unfortunately, yes. It closed on Friday. -
Josh Atchley
New to the site here, is the 30 second commercial entries closed?
-
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Jeff Zampino
After they have been screened, you'll be able to view them by clicking the submission button on the right-hand side of this page. -
Caleb Light-Wills
@Bret Carr
The clock actually adjusts to whatever time zone you are in. So, if you see 7pm, it's due at 7pm wherever you are. Also, you can slash the bumpers to get it down to 30. -
Jeff Zampino
when can we see the entries? Since there is no most viewed round, will we be able to see them?
-
Bret Carr
hey it's 7pm west coast time right? the deadline? i'm uploading now, and i've added bumpers for broadcast - do you want the 30sec without bumpers - (begining and end title and tag or) or can i put the 39 seconds with bumpers and 30 seconds of commercial?
-
Dave Yarr
Since client is going to see the original file maybe there is no need to be worry about quality! But this is just my thoughts.
-
Andre Ferreira
@Caleb Light-Wills
any way you can do the same for my animation? -
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Cristina Diaz, @Tomas Christensen
Hey guys, your animations have been converted to a higher resolution so that the lines don't pixelate. Watch them fullscreen and tell me what you think. -
-
-
Mark Burrell
@Garrett Tripp
go to your profile page. then, in your portfolio, hit the minus sign "-" next to the submission. this will delete it. -
Garrett Tripp
Hey, i know this question has already been asked, but i cant find the answer. How do i delete a video while its being processed?
Thanks. -
Tomas Christensen
@Caleb Light-Wills
Hi Caleb. Did you have a chance to reconvert my video to a higher resolution? It's still very aliased and flickery. Or is there some other format that I should be using for my upload? -
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@John Jones
They watch the source files, so if you submit a .wmv, they see that, if you submit a .mov they see that. -
John Jones
Do you know if the Judges watch it on Quicktime player or Windows Media player? The contrast on both look completely different.
-
-
Garrett Tripp
If I use the .mov file provided in project files, does that count as winepicks being shown as one time in the requirements? Or do i need to use both logos in the video?
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Cristina Diaz
Judges have access to the source files when reviewing the videos. I.e. the way your video looks on our player will not adversely effect your chances in the competition. -
Cristina Diaz
Hey Caleb, I'm having the same issue Tomas was having. Will the judges be seeing the video the same quality we see it when we playback on tongal? Or do they have access to the actual uploaded file? I don't want the poor quality to affect my chances.
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Michelle Glavan
Not for this competition, but there are plenty of sites like Audiosocket.com and killertracks that have royalty-free music available. -
Michelle Glavan
I want to add background music to my video, how can I get free, copyright-free music? Are there any files of music provided?
-
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Tomas Christensen
Yes, I see what you are talking about. I will try reconverting your video at a higher resolution. This tends to happen with animations on our player. Trying to figure out a good long-term fix. -
Tomas Christensen
Hi, I just uploaded my first submission for the Video Phase. However, after uploading, the video was converted and now the video quality is poor and all my outlines are aliased.The original was HD720p .mov with H.264 codec. Is there anything I can do?
-
-
James DeJulio
@Dave, go to your profile page. then, in your portfolio, hit the minus sign "-" next to the submission. this will delete it.
-
Tongal Feedback
@Dave Yarr
Hey Dave, if you go to the portfolio section of your profile page, you can click the "minus" button next to you submission. This removes it from the competition. -
-
-
Mark Burrell
Kris, answer is no. To make Tongal an inclusive collaborative effort for community and brand, all the videos must be based on one of the winning concepts. You are free to interpret any of those concepts as you please though.
-
Kris Klise
@Kris Klise
is this possible? I wouldnt want to shoot it and not have a chance because it was my own concept?? -
Kris Klise
Hello all. I have read all of the posts and been following this since it started. I did not get my concept faze in on time. I would like to get a firm answer on shooting a video not based on one of the 5 concept winners. I'd like to stick to my own concept
-
Colin Duffy
@Mark. Sounds great, was just curious. I am more than happy to have more editing time, haha.
-
Mark Zappala
@Colin Duffy
Our deadline was arbitrary and, after talking to a faculty member at CMU, the point was stressed that the post production phase of a video was the most important in yielding a quality product. Rushing that risked us not getting what we wanted. -
-
Christian Schwier
@Caleb Light-Wills
Great! Looking forward to the extra time to fine tune our submissions :D -
Caleb Light-Wills
Good News: The Video submission deadline for winepicks has been extended by two weeks. Videos will now be due on the 26th instead of the 12th.
-
Mark Zappala
Mark Zappala here. I am the CEO of winepicks and want to make myself available to any of you that have questions or concerns on what winepicks is about or what is was and was not designed to do. We're anxious to see how creative you are!
-
James DeJulio
@Tomas, based on ANY of the 5 winning Concepts. You don't have to follow it literally, but make sure you capture the essence of it.
-
Tomas Christensen
Does the Video submission have to be based on the winning Concept?
-
Caleb Light-Wills
Video of the winepicks app in use is now available on the Project Files section of this page.
-
Mark Burrell
In terms of the winners, the guys at Winepicks wanted to make sure the video show the uses of the app correctly and wanted a diverse selection i.e. not everyone about a guy getting the girl. Also, it doesn't necessarily make you an expert in wine.
-
Mark Burrell
Alvoro, can definitely be outside. The concept is meant as a guideline, but we limit the characters as we don't want to put you in a box. If it's got a young guy in a liquor store, I wouldn't make one of an old lady in a house but you can be creative, sure
-
Alvaro Bautista
Hey You! I'm thinking in make my video for the contest, how much it have to be inside the wining concepts? Can I make something a little outside of this?
-
Michael Bradley
Ahh noobish 1st prize should've got second not first sorry.. I thought maybe I might get even 5th? But no really? Man I thought that would be a tanked commercial, I guess not though...
-
Mark Burrell
We'll have for you Monday Marc! Thanks for being on top of it.
-
Marc Holmes
@Caleb Light-Wills
itunes say its not available for UK store :( Please is there any chance of a video of the application which we could use as an insert? -
Kathy Thompson
@Caleb Light-Wills
Thanks for the walk through, or is it threw..? -
-
Ad Synaesthesia
I can't see my Portfolio (clicking on the navigation gives me the error page), though my Updates say my concepts were submitted. How can I be sure? Can you check it out? Thanks!
-
James DeJulio
@Nicholas, something's up. I don't see a submission from you. As soon as you submit something, you(and only you)should be able to see it in your portfolio, regardless. we'll check into it.
-
Mark Burrell
Doing our best to provide you with video assets to be able to incorporate into video if you choose or if you want to participate and don't have i-phone.
-
Mark Burrell
Nicholas, won't show till screening is over. The reason it's not open till contest is closed is so work is independent. In other words, don't want someone else to be able to see yours and tweak or copy it.
-
Nicholas Hoyle
will it show in the portfolio section directly after submitting? I followed the correct steps yet my portfolio remains empty
-
Tony Lantry
@Nicholas Hoyle
Your profile should show your submissions. Tongal accepts/rejects them after the deadline. -
Nicholas Hoyle
how can i be sure that my concept submission was accepted?
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Kathy Thompson
Once you click the minus button, the submission is removed from the project, but remains in your portfolio. -
Mark Burrell
Tony, got your request and it's a great one. We are working on that. I agree, to participate, you shouldn't have to own an i-phone.
-
Kathy Thompson
@Caleb Light-Wills
Thanks, Caleb, I was able to switch one, but I wanted to edit my other as well, I took it off, but the site isn't recognizing that it was taken off. -
Caleb Light-Wills
@Kathy Thompson
You can remove your concept and submit another one. Simply visit the portfolio section of your profile page and click the minus symbol next to the submission to remove it. You can then submit another one. -
Kathy Thompson
I submitted my concept, and now I'm thinking I could have made it better, is there away to go back in and tweek my concept?
-
Tony Lantry
I'm curious if winepicks could provide a short video file showing a demo of the application that we could include in the commercial.
-
Tongal Feedback
@Daniel Taylor
No, your concept does not have to win to be able to submit a video. Yes, you can submit a video, even if you miss the concept phase. -
Matt Donato
Well I know you have to be 21 to drink it but I don't know if there are any age restrictions when it comes to people filming people drinking it...
-
Daniel Taylor
Hey just curious, I couldnt find anything in the rules about this, but does our concept have to be accepted/win something, to be able to submit a video? Or can you submit a video after missing the concept phase?
-
Sean Mallory
Thank you for the response. after writing 5 pages, lol I narrowed it down to 250 words and submitted. Thank you for your help.
-
Caleb Light-Wills
@Sean Mallory
Since its only 250 characters, it can't be a full-fledged treatment or script of story boarded. The idea behind this is to leave some room for creative interpretation. I suppose the closest thing to it would be a log line. Does that help? -
Caleb Light-Wills
@Marc Holmes
You can definitely download the app, but I don't know if it has the same access to inventory, etc. -
Sean Mallory
I was just curious in which format you would like the concept. Treatment, script. or story boarded?
