Throughout the course of human history, people have experimented with foods and flavors. For example, we give credit to the friendly folks from Cheddar Gorge in southwest England for discovering that their caves had the perfect temperature and humidity for cheese making. The jalapeno was named after the Mexican town Xalap, and has been a staple of the cuisine for years. And, although there is still speculation amongst food historians, many believe that the classic BBQ flavor we’ve all grown to love was born in the Caribbean West Indies.
With so many different foods and so many different cultures, it’s worth thinking for a moment about just how simple the connection point for all this great experience and sharing really is. Because it’s something right there at the tip of all our tongues...flavor.
Pringles has always celebrated flavor—and the Pringles product line has expanded to offer 200 incredible flavors. Popping open that tube of deliciousness and crunching into a perfect Pringles stack has always been a transcendent experience—it can bring a world of flavor and unexpected fun to your door—and to your mouth!
And now Pringles is looking to YOU to bring some “flavor” to their flavors—with some truly inspired and original videos.
OFFICIAL RULES
Choose one of 8 provided flavors and create a 30-60 second video that embraces the spirit of that flavor. The best Videos will have viral/breakout potential, illuminate, and celebrate the flavor you’ve chosen in a fun, original and unforgettable way.
The 8 flavors you can pick from are as follows:
Original, Sour Cream & Onion, Cheddar Cheese, BBQ, Multigrain Original, Salt & Vinegar, Jalapeno Cheddar Cheezums, and Xtreme Screamin' Dill Pickle.
--Tone: Humorous, unexpected, quirky, original and authentic.
--Key Marketing Message: The irresistible flavor of Pringles sparks unexpected fun.
--Target Audience: 18-25 year olds, especially those engaged in social media (Facebook, YouTube, etc.)
Note: While by no means a requirement---the Pringles brand team will look favorably upon inclusion of a YouTube celebrity in the Pitch Phase.
This project will be worth a total of $45,000 and consist of three phases. Also, this tournament style process will progress differently from previous projects, so be sure to read the following information carefully.
PHASE 1: IDEA – Select one of the 8 Pringles flavors from the drop-down menu in the submission form (Original, Sour Cream & Onion, Cheddar Cheese, BBQ, Multigrain Original, Salt & Vinegar, Jalapeno Cheddar Cheezums, and Xtreme Screamin' Dill Pickle) and tell us your Idea in 140 characters or less. The best Ideas will not only serve as input for an amazing video, but also thematically reinforce the essence and fun of that particular flavor. Remember, an Idea is not a detailed script; it is a moment of inspiration, or a tweet-sized distillation of what will happen in the Video. As always, Ideas should be clever, engaging, and fun. Winning Idea creators will each receive $250.
NOTE: Two Ideas will be selected per flavor.
PHASE 2: PITCH – Using text (500 characters or less), images (storyboards), video, and external links (to other supporting assets, i.e., your reel, etc.), give us your Pitch for how YOU would go about producing this Video based on one of the 16 winning Ideas. The 16 most compelling Pitches will be selected and will receive a $500 production budget to help create their Video. Those winners (upon submitting their Winner's Affidavit and IP Assignment) will also be GUARANTEED to place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected, you will earn a minimum of $1,000 with a 1-in-16 shot at the $12,500 first place video prize. Remember your Pitch can include any, and all, of the assets mentioned above, but you MUST include a link to some of your previous video work on Tongal or elsewhere to be considered for this phase. To avoid information cascades, all Pitches will remain private until after the video winners of the subsequent phase are announced.
NOTE: One Pitch will be selected per Idea (2 per Flavor).
PHASE 3: VIDEO – Pitch winners from the previous round will submit their fully formed 30-60 second videos. Those videos will then be Judged by Pringles brand representatives who will determine their final ranking order. The 1st place grand prize video winner will take home $12,500 while 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place will earn $7,500, $3,000, and $2,000, respectively. The 5th-8th place winners will each earn $1,000 each and the 9th-16th place winners will take home $500 each.
