1966/1967, The Beach Boys recorded, in several sessions, a bounty of songs and drafts for an album, SMiLE, that was intended to follow the band’s 1966 masterpiece, Pet Sounds.  The sessions were ultimately shelved, and The Beach Boys’ SMiLE has never been officially released. Finally, after years of waiting, Capitol/EMI has collected and compiled the definitive collection, ‘The SMiLE Sessions,’ for worldwide release this year. As part of the promotional efforts, Capitol has turned to the Tongal community to source Music Videos for the two Beach Boys classics, “Good Vibrations” and “Heroes and Villains.”

OFFICIAL RULES

Create a music video for the classic Beach Boys tunes “Good Vibrations” and  “Heroes and Villains.” Your video can be animated, live-action or any style of your choosing. Make it trippy, make it classic, but definitely make it your own. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a fully-endorsed “official” music video for one of the greatest pop/rock groups of all time, so pull out all the stops and make this one count.

This project will be worth a total of $10,000 + Tons of In-kind prizing and consists of two phases so there’s a place for all of you to contribute, regardless of your skill set.

PHASE 1: CONCEPT
In 250 characters or less, tell us a Concept that can serve as the basis for a Beach Boys music video. You may choose to base your Concept on either “Heroes and Villains” or “Good Vibrations.” Effective Concepts will include basic plot points and stylistic cues. Winning Concepts will receive a 5% residual payment of every winning Video they are used to generate. Limit five (5) submissions, per member.

PHASE 2: VIDEO  Select one of the 5 winning Concepts from phase 1 and make a Music Video based on it. Think of the Concept as the central thesis that you should build your video around. Alternatively, you may create a “Wild Card” submission that’s not based on any winning material from the previous phase. As always, creativity and originality are king so make it interesting and have some fun with it. As a bonus, the 1st place winner of this phase will receive a Custom Autographed Beach Boys Surf Board by Hobie! Limit five (5) submissions, per member.

--Music: Tongal members will be able to download both songs, "Good Vibrations" and "Heroes and Villains," by visiting the project files tab on this page.
